Our client Jordan built a beautiful, brand new, cottage in Kawartha Lakes that was unable to get Starlink because the trees to the north of his cottage were over 100ft high and blocking the view to the satellites. He wanted to get better internet at the cottage because he likes being able to spend more time there during the week working remotely.
He also has a growing family and his kids were wanting to game and stream from the cottage as well. Jordan also had some network and audio wiring in the new cottage that he wanted to get connected to the home network. He also wanted us to consult with him about getting his audio cables connected with speakers for a home audio system.
From looking at his cottage on Google Earth I was able to see that he had quite a clear open field between the cottage and the lake that would likely be the only good spot for the Starlink dish. I discussed these options with Jordan and he decided to go ahead with the installation.
Our technicians got to the site and the field was the only spot for the dish to get a clear signal to the satellites. We installed the Starlink system in the field with a ground pole mount and concrete. The Starlink cable was trenched to the home utility room. The network cabling left by the electrician was a total mess!
We ended up organizing the cable and putting it all neatly into a rack unit. The Starlink modem was placed in the rack and the home Ethernet wiring was all connected to Starlink with a switch. The keystone wall plates were all terminated so that the Starlink signal is now available on all the Ethernet connections throughout the home.
Because of this we were also able to setup a fast mesh wifi system ensuring that Jordan and his family all have fast reliable wifi no matter where they are on the property. We also organized the audio wiring and quoted Jordan on a Sonos audio system. Jordan approved that quote and now with a great network foundation our techs will return to setup the audio system at a later date.
